I work for a roofing company, Western Roofing Systems, based in Campbell, and I have come across a fact that has questioned my desire to stay employed there and has ached at my heart to say something. The roofing company in question will quote prospective customers differently based on the sole trait of the ethnicity of said prospective customer, or "Ethinic-Quoting" as was said at a recent sales meeting. (specific mention was made towards Chinese and Fillapino's).

I am a canvasser that goes door-to-door establishing contact and getting phone numbers of people with bad wood roofs and that are looking for free estimates. I report those phone numbers and names and addresses and our call center then calls the phone number and eventually sets an appointment for an estimator (salesman) to visit the home (sometimes the call center is left out of the process). Once at the home the "salesman" looks at the roofs condition, measures the square footage, diagrams the roof, and eventually quotes a price for the roof (stone-coated steel is the only material type the salesman push. Sometimes comp but rarely if ever. Stone coated steel comes in a varity of looks and colors as well). (these are factors that should affect price).

I wish to tell someone, and make people aware. I feel responsible since I am the first point of contact that represents the company at the door and face-to-face with people that eventually are met with a salesman that will treat them in a racist fashion. I am disgusted to be honest that race would play a part at all. I feel used. Is this racism? I need to know what others think. What I can do if indeed it is...
